Creating a flow map for Seedefy’s investor dashboard involves outlining the steps a user takes to navigate through the platform’s features and functionalities. Here’s a simplified flow map:
Challenges and Solutions
1. Risk Communication
Investing in startups carries inherent risks, and conveying these risks to users while still encouraging investment is a significant challenge. The UX designer must find ways to clearly communicate the risks associated with startup investments without deterring users from participating. This might involve using plain language, visual aids, and interactive tools to help users understand the potential rewards and risks.
My solutions:
- I have incorporated Educational content on the platform as well on the website
- I have suggested and put in place clear risk disclosure statements and disclaimers throughout the platform, especially during the investment process.
- Visualization is important – I have made different visual solutions like charts, graphs, and sliders that can help users grasp complex risk-reward tradeoffs more intuitively.
- Risk Meter – I have Implemented a visual risk meter in the form of a gauge on each startup’s profile page to provide a quick visual indication of the level of risk associated with the investment.
2. Due Diligence
Startups often lack the extensive financial history and track record of established companies, making it challenging for investors to conduct thorough due diligence. The UX designer must design features that help investors research and evaluate startups effectively. This might include providing access to company profiles, founder backgrounds, market analysis, and other relevant information in a user-friendly format.
My solutions:
- Comprehensive Startup Profiles: I have planned and designed detailed startup profiles that consolidate key information in a user-friendly format. Include sections such as company overview, product/service description, target market, revenue model, funding history, and milestones achieved.
- Founder and Team Profiles: I have made detailed profiles of the startup’s founders and key team members, highlighting their backgrounds, expertise, previous experiences, and roles within the company.
- Milestones concept – One more of my solutions is the ‘Milestones’ concept, startups unlock specific portions of their investment by achieving predetermined goals or milestones. Once a milestone is completed, the startup founder notifies the investor by marking it as achieved on the platform. The investor then has the opportunity to review and approve the milestone, after which the next portion of the investment is released.
3. Accessibility and Education
Many potential investors may be unfamiliar with the startup investment process and terminology. The UX designer faces the challenge of making the platform accessible to novice investors while still catering to more experienced users. This might involve providing educational resources, tutorials, and interactive guides to help users understand concepts such as equity crowdfunding, valuation, and investment terms.
My solutions:
- Video tutorials tab in the platform -I’ve added an ‘Academy’ tab to the platform, providing users with access to basic tutorials for navigating the app.
- FAQ and support – Additionally, we have an FAQ and support section to assist users with any questions or uncertainties they may encounter.
4. Trust and Credibility
Building trust and credibility is crucial for a startup investment platform, as users need to feel confident in the legitimacy of the companies they are investing in and the platform itself. The UX designer must design interfaces that inspire trust through clear communication, transparency, and credibility indicators such as user reviews, company endorsements, and regulatory compliance information.
My solutions:
- User Reviews and Ratings: Implement a user review and rating system where investors can share their experiences with startups they have invested in.
- Transparency in Communication: Emphasize transparency in all communications between the platform, startups, and investors.
4. Regulatory Compliance
Startup investments are subject to various regulatory requirements, including securities laws and investor accreditation rules. Ensuring compliance with these regulations while maintaining a user-friendly experience presents a challenge for the UX designer. This might involve implementing features such as investor accreditation checks, compliance disclosures, and legal disclaimers in a way that is unobtrusive but still fulfills legal requirements.
My solutions:
- Disclosure – Provide clear and concise disclosures about regulatory requirements and compliance obligations throughout the platform.
- Legal Disclaimers – Display legal disclaimers and terms of use in a prominent but unobtrusive manner, ensuring that users are aware of their rights and obligations when using the platform.
- Educational videos and sources – Offer educational resources and guidance to help users understand regulatory requirements and navigate the investment process compliantly.
